Prepare For A Patient Assessment

The assessment is similar to any contact lens assessment. So no special preparation is needed. If this is your first potential night lens fit then knowing how to explain the fitting process to the patient is useful. Watch the videos explaining the patient journey at www.nightlenses.com. These videos are intended for you to sent to patients along with their appointment reminder.

NB: Advise patients not to wear soft contact lenses for a minimum of 48 hours prior to this assessment to ensure the best quality topography can be captured.

Make sure you have resources to give or to email the patient following the assessment. These are available online, hard copies can be ordered from Scotlens using this order form.

  • Myopiachat info card – simple myopia information
  • Nocturnal Patient Brochure – Comprehensive patient information about Nocturnal night lenses and the ortho-k process.

The myopiachat info-card can help you explain myopia and myopia control and allow the patient to have a non-brand specific resource to get further information from after they leave the practice. The myopiachat content is all clinically referenced and covers the information now suggested by optical bodies that should be provided to patients.

The Nocturnal Patient Brochure details how night lenses and the corneal changes occur during orthokeratology. The patient will be interested for you to tell them about how long Nocturnal have been available, safety, the appointments needed, etc. Providing this brochure to the patient allows them to read it after they leave the practice. This is beneficial whether you are ordering lens straight away after the assessment, or if they are going to look at the information and then confirm with you they wish to go ahead, before you order the lenses.

Scotlens only need the patient Rx, topography and HVID to supply lenses. Sometimes other information can be useful for you to consider when advising your patient. There is a Patient Baseline Asessment Form which has a cohesive list of information you may want to get at the assessment. Not all the information on this form is needed to order lenses or indeed available depending on your topographer.

✅ TASKS TO DO

  • Familiarise yourself with your topographer and basic analysis.
  • Watch the night lenses videos and send the first one to the patient as a reminder for their appointment.
  • Have the patient information ready to give to the patient at their assessment.
